Finn was our driver and he narrated the history and environmental significance of the surroundings from the minute we got on the four wheel drive bus. We were away for about 6.5 hours which I thoroughly enjoyed ... (my husband found it a bit long). The scenery is outstanding and what makes this so special is the World Nature Heritage status which they aspire to and are in the process of gaining recognition for. As a result they are the only vehicles allowed beyond the 4km entry to the beach at the thick end. There's plenty to see in terms of wild life including huge bones from a sperm whale, seals, birds etc. The coffee and muffin supplied was a welcome treat at the lighthouse where we got a lovely glimpse at the life the former lighthouse keepers would've lived. I'd thoroughly recommend this trip...it was so worth the expense! The bus took us to the spit and also to Cape Farewell which was also stunning.
