Located on Mt Hay Station – a century-old, family-run farm in the heart of Lake Tekapo – this one-hour tour lets you experience real Mackenzie Country terrain in a fun, safe, and unforgettable way.

Climb into your own two-seat Polaris ATV and follow your guide across rolling hills, wide-open tussock country, and rugged farm tracks. Along the way, you’ll stop to take in breathtaking views of Lake Tekapo’s turquoise waters, surrounding mountain ranges, and the awe-inspiring landscapes that have shaped generations of local farming life.

Before departure, a full safety briefing and hands-on vehicle training ensures you feel confident and comfortable behind the wheel. Your guide provides live commentary throughout the journey, sharing stories of the land, its history, and the working life of a high-country station.

  • Self-Drive ATV Tours is an adventure activity that includes a certain degree of risk to participants. Utmost care has been taken to ensure that all risks are managed or eliminated however guests will be asked to sign a waiver before taking part in this activity. The risks include injury and death if instructions are not followed clearly. If you do not have a valid drivers license at check-in you will not be entitled to a refund. Passengers must be a minimum of 10 years Vehicles can seat two people each. If both guests want to drive we will swap halfway through the tour.
