Stevenson Island cruise

It was a great experience. A short walk in Stevenson Island with panoramic view on top.

Stevenson Island boat trip

website: 'Stevensons Island Scenic Reserve is protected by the Department of Conservation and is a haven for birdlife - you can expect to encounter many species of birds that are difficult to sight elsewhere in New Zealand.' reality: it's not far from the mainland and predators can swim - don't expect to see any ground nesting birds on Stevensons That said it's a pleasant cruise cross the lake. Guide for the nature walk was new to the role - I suggested a helpful bird app (Merlin) to improve his knowledge. We all have to start sometime! Lovely to see Wanaka from a different perspective.

Boat ride

Was pretty good!! We enjoyed our time. Had young children. They were very accomidating and had toys for my toddler to play with on the return. Offered me a private place to breastfeed. So kind. ❤️ only negative feedback I have is the biscuits and coffee are very cheap and yuck. Otherwise brilliant. Lovely staff. All friendly and nice.

Pleasant experience but NOT for families!

Our family of 4 were very much looking forward to going on this cruise in Wanaka. We were lucky with the weather and the kids (6 and 3) were super excited about being on the boat. It was almost like a private cruise as there was only one other couple on the boat. Unfortunately, the owner of the boat was very hostile towards the kids from the moment we stepped onboard. He kept growling at them all throughout the cruise, mostly for petty silly things. Most skippers have let my kids pose for a photo in the 'control' seat but not this guy. He got really aggro with my son for having a seat and posing for a photo (when the boat was turned off and moored up. The organisers should mention that small children are not welcome on this cruise because that's exactly what it felt like. Including the owner's comments made to the other couple just as we were leaving the boat. The other crew member, Pavla, was lovely and super friendly. Unfortunately, even her efforts to make us feel welcome were did little to undo the 'damage' done by Tim ( I believe that was the owner's name). Overall, a nice enough cruise if you're travelling without kids. Was a little disappointed about not seeing any weka as that was one of the reasons I booked us on the cruise in the first place. Turns out they're on another island...

A bit overpriced for uneducated staff

Uneducated and not caring for the status of the area. The boat ride was slow and got boring. The island you spend 20mins on walking to the top then get given a very uneducated talk by the young guy. He was wearing high top nikes which explained his "love for nature" was probably more a town boy. Was giving out false information about Maori history. Also the operators have a diligence to take care of the islands and respect all rules. There was a dog the guide stated it was not meant to be on the island but was just a small dog. This should of had the operators calling 0800hotdoc immediately . They failed all responsibility they accept when taking people to the island. Definitely needs to educate tour guide immediately to not give tourists false information that could get them in legal trouble.
